Short Code for Text Messaging

The Short Code “78645” is the standard “caller ID” for all SMS Text Messages sent to US numbers.

Major Benefits of SMS Short Code:

  1. Senders can publish a recognizable number to their text recipients thereby identifying the text sender
  2. It is very reliable and effective method of communicating.

Rapid Notify still has the optional 20-character subject line. We recommend using these additional characters to identify your organization. For example, “Anytown Alerts” or “Acme Co.” would appear before the main body of your text message, helping recipients to know where the alert originated.
Additional upgrades include the ability to receive SMS text message replies and manage opt-outs. Reports have been created to indicate Delivery Status of and Reply to text messages.

IPAWS Modernization Act

amber-alertA recent bill approved by the Senate Homeland Security Committee will potentially expand and update IPAWS. The Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Modernization Act of 2015 was introduced by Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Sen. Claire McCaskill, (D-Mo.). The bill seeks to ensure that warnings about natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other threats are disseminated quickly and effectively, as well as including the capability to alert those with disabilities and non-English speakers.

More and more government agencies are signing up for access to the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), sent via IPAWS, are only just starting to be utilized. WEA emergency messages can be sent by authorized government alerting authorities through your mobile carrier for situations such as extreme weather, and other threatening emergencies in your area, AMBER Alerts, and Presidential Alerts during a national emergency.
