What is WEA?

Wireless Emergency Alerts continue to cause confusion even as they are becoming more common. Formerly known as the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are emergency messages sent by authorized government alerting authorities through your mobile carrier. These alerts fall into one of three categories; extreme weather or other threatening local emergencies, AMBER Alerts, and Presidential Alerts during a national emergency.

Galain Solutions has put together a helpful six-minute webcast on WEA that breaks down the system into easy to understand concepts.

We have a helpful white paper on the subject of IPAWS and how it works in connection with WEA for download.
